The photos slide, zoom and flip in time with the music, with a little light and color on top, and suddenly a few pictures from your gallery look like a proper edit. The good news is that you do not need video clips, a laptop or a lot of experience. All you need is a phone, Alight Motion and a few good photos.
In this post I will explain how a photo-based trending edit works, how to prepare your photos before you open the app, and how to open the project, replace the pictures, set the timing and export the final video. I use Alight Motion for almost all of the edits I share on Editaurastudio, so the steps below follow the way I normally work.
What Makes a Photo Edit Look Good?
Many beginners think the template does all the work, but the result depends just as much on the photos you choose. Two people can open the same project and get very different videos. The one with sharper, better-matched photos will always look more professional. A trending photo edit usually has these things in common:
- Photos with a similar color tone and similar lighting
- One clear subject in each photo
- Changes that land on the beat of the music
- Smooth movement, not too many effects at once
- A short, simple text or none at all
Prepare Your Photos First
Spend five minutes on your photos before you open Alight Motion. It saves time later and improves the result more than any effect can.
- Choose the best photos. Pick four to six photos where the face is sharp, the light is good and the person is clearly visible. Delete blurry or dark ones.
- Use the originals. Photos sent through chat apps are compressed and look soft when the video zooms in. Use the original file from your gallery.
- Match the look. If one photo is bright and another is dark, adjust the brightness in your gallery app so they look like a set.
- Mix the shots. Use a mix of close-ups and wider photos, so the video has some variety.
- Keep the order in mind. Put the strongest photo where the music is strongest.

Step-by-Step: How to Make the Photo Edit
Step 1: Update Alight Motion
Check the Play Store or App Store for an update. A project made in a newer version may not open in an older one, and updating first fixes many import problems before they start.
Step 2: Open the project
Tap the project link given at the end of this post and confirm the import when Alight Motion asks. After a few seconds, the project appears on the home screen of the app. If the link opens in your browser, use the option there to open it in the app.
Step 3: Watch the preview carefully
Play the whole video once without changing anything. Notice how each photo enters the screen, how long it stays and where the movement speeds up. Understanding the rhythm of the project helps you decide which photo should go where.
Step 4: Replace the photos
Tap the first photo layer in the timeline and choose the option to replace the media. Select your own photo from the gallery. The new photo takes the place of the old one and keeps the animation. Repeat this for every photo layer. Menu names can look a little different between app versions, but the idea is always the same: select the layer, replace the media and choose your photo.
Step 5: Fit each photo inside its frame
After replacing a photo, check how it sits in the frame. The face should be in the clear part of the screen and should not be hidden by borders or effects. Use scale and position to move the photo until it looks natural. Do not stretch a photo to fill the space, because that changes how a person looks.
Step 6: Add your music
Tap the plus icon, choose Audio and select your track. Trim it so the part with the strongest beat plays during the most important photos. If the project already has an audio layer, replace it so that two tracks do not play together.
Step 7: Match the photo changes with the beat
Play the video slowly and watch where each photo changes. A change should land on a beat or just after it. If one feels early or late, drag the edge of its layer by a few frames and check again. Work from the beginning, one photo at a time, instead of trying to fix everything at once. Small shifts make a big difference.
Step 8: Adjust the color and light
If the project has color or glow layers, change them gently. A little more contrast or a warmer tone can give the video a more finished look. Too much can hide details in the face, so make small changes and watch the preview after each one.
Step 9: Edit the text if there is any
If the project has a text layer, tap it and write your own word, such as a name. Keep it short and easy to read, and make sure it stays inside the frame. If the font looks different after you edit it, choose a similar font from the app and adjust the size.
Step 10: Check and export
Watch the full video with headphones. Look for faces that are cut off, text that is hard to read and places where the music stops suddenly. When you are happy, tap the share icon and export the project as a video using the settings below.
How to Make It Feel Smooth
Smoothness is what separates a good photo edit from an average one. These small habits help.
- Keep the movement of every photo going in a similar direction, so the video feels planned.
- Do not use more than two or three effects at the same time.
- Leave a little breathing space on slow parts of the music instead of changing photos constantly.
- Keep faces away from the bottom of the screen, where Reels and Shorts show buttons and captions.
Best Export Settings
- Resolution: 1080p for the best quality. Use 720p if your phone is slow or gets hot.
- Frame rate: 30 fps is enough for most phones. Use 60 fps only if you want extra smooth motion and do not mind a larger file.
- Format: MP4 video
Keep the screen on while exporting and close other apps before you start. This reduces the chance of a crash.
Posting Tips After You Export
- Post when your followers are most active. Check your account insights if you have a creator or business account.
- Write a short caption that gives people a reason to stay, such as a question or a short thought.
- Use a few relevant hashtags instead of a very long list.
- Use music that is allowed on the platform, or choose from the platform's own library when possible. This helps avoid muted videos.
Common Problems and Easy Fixes
The project does not open. Update Alight Motion, check your internet and try the link again or in a different browser.
The photos look blurry. Use the original photos from your gallery, not copies sent through messaging apps.
A face is cut off. Select the layer and adjust the scale and position until the face sits inside the visible area.
The changes do not match the beat. Make sure the audio starts at the beginning of the timeline, then move the layers a few frames at a time.
The app lags or crashes. Free up storage, close other apps and export at 720p. Restarting your phone before you export can help.
The text looks different. The font may not be installed on your phone. Choose a similar one from the app and adjust the size.
An effect is missing or a watermark appears. Some effects may need the paid version, and the free version may add a watermark. Check your plan inside the app.
Photo and Music Rights
Use only photos that belong to you or that you have permission to use. If a photo shows another person, ask them before you post the video publicly. Avoid pictures downloaded from the internet and photos of celebrities. Get your music from an official source and follow the rules of the platform where you upload.
