A birthday wish feels special when it does not look like every other wish on the screen. In the last few months, 3D birthday videos have become very popular on WhatsApp Status, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts. The photo seems to float in space, the name appears in thick glowing letters, balloons drift past the camera and the whole frame moves as if you were looking through a real lens.

The good news is that you do not need a computer for this. Alight Motion on your phone is enough. In this post I will explain how to make a 3D birthday video in Alight Motion using a free project link and your own photo. I will cover what the video looks like, how to prepare your photo, how to change the name and text, how to add music, how to export a sharp video and how to fix common problems. Almost every edit I share on Editaurastudio is made in Alight Motion, so the steps below follow the way I normally work on my phone.

What Is a 3D Birthday Video?

A 3D birthday video is a short vertical video, usually fifteen to thirty seconds long, that gives a feeling of depth. The person is placed in front of a background, while text, balloons, sparkles and other objects move at different speeds in front of and behind them. This difference in movement is what creates the 3D look. The camera also moves slowly, with a gentle zoom or sway, so the scene feels alive.

  • A vertical video that fits Status, Reels and Shorts without cropping
  • A cut-out photo of the birthday person placed in the middle layer
  • Large birthday text with depth, shadow or glow
  • Balloons, light effects and floating particles around the photo
  • A cheerful song or a soft beat that matches the mood

What You Need Before You Start

  • An Android phone or iPhone with the latest version of Alight Motion
  • At least 1.5 GB of free storage
  • One clear photo of the birthday person, preferably with a plain background
  • The name and the short wish you want to show
  • A birthday song or instrumental saved on your phone
  • Internet to open the project link

Choosing and Preparing the Photo

The photo decides most of the final quality, so spend a few minutes on it before you open the app.

  • Pick a sharp photo. A blurry or dark picture will look worse once it is enlarged in the video. Use the original file from your gallery, not one sent through a chat app.
  • Choose a half-body or full-body shot. A photo with the whole upper body gives the 3D effect more room to work.
  • Prefer a simple background. A plain wall or sky makes it easier to remove the background.
  • Look for even light. Strong shadows across the face can look odd when the photo moves.

Most 3D templates need a photo with a transparent background, which means only the person is visible. You can remove the background with the cut-out option in your gallery app, with a background remover app, or with the tools inside Alight Motion. Save the result as a PNG file, because PNG keeps the transparent area. A JPG will have a white or black box around the person.

Step-by-Step: How to Make the Video

Step 1: Update Alight Motion

Open the Play Store or App Store and check for an update. A project made in a newer version may not open in an older one, so updating first can save you a lot of trouble.

Step 2: Open the project

Tap the project link given at the end of this post and confirm the import when Alight Motion asks. After a few seconds, the project appears on the home screen of the app. If the link opens in your browser, use the option there to open it in the app.

Step 3: Watch the preview

Play the video once without changing anything. Notice which layer is the photo, which layers are text and which ones are decoration. Watch how long the video is and where the music starts. This helps you understand what to replace and what to leave alone.

Step 4: Replace the photo

Tap the photo layer in the timeline and choose the option to replace the media. Select your PNG cut-out from the gallery. The new photo takes the place of the old one and keeps the animation. If the photo looks too big or too small, use the move and scale handles to adjust it. Menu names can look slightly different between app versions, but the idea is the same.

Step 5: Check the depth layers

The 3D feeling comes from layers. Some objects sit behind the person, such as a big glowing name or a circle of light, and some sit in front, such as balloons or confetti. If your photo is placed on the wrong layer, the effect breaks. Drag the photo layer up or down in the timeline until the text and objects pass behind or in front of it in the right way.

Step 6: Change the name and text

Tap each text layer and type your own words. Usually there is a main line like Happy Birthday and a separate layer for the name. Keep the name short, because very long names may go outside the frame. If it does not fit, reduce the size slightly or break it into two lines. Kannada, English or a mix all work, as long as the font supports every language you use.

Step 7: Adjust the colors

Change the text color, glow and background tint so they match the photo. If the person wears a red dress, a gold or white title looks good. If the photo has cool blue tones, try silver or light cyan. Do not use too many colors at once. Two main colors and one accent color are enough for a clean look.

Step 8: Add the song

Tap the plus icon, choose Audio and select your song. Pick a section that starts at the beginning of a musical phrase. If the project already has an audio layer, replace it so two tracks do not play together. Add a fade-out at the end so the video finishes smoothly.

Step 9: Sync the movement with the beat

Play the video slowly and watch when the big moments happen, such as the name appearing or the balloons rising. These should land on a strong beat. If a moment feels early or late, drag the edge of that layer by a few frames until it feels right. Even a small shift makes the video feel more professional.

Step 10: Check and export

Watch the whole video from start to end. Read the name and every line of text carefully, because a spelling mistake in a birthday wish is very noticeable. Check that nothing is cut off at the edges. When everything is correct, tap the share icon and export the video using the settings below.

Tips for a Better 3D Look

  • Use a soft shadow under the person so they feel connected to the scene.
  • Keep the background slightly blurred, so the person stands out.
  • Use slow camera movement. Fast shaking looks cheap and can make people dizzy.
  • Do not fill every corner. Empty space makes the main subject look stronger.
  • Keep the text inside the safe area, away from the top and bottom, where apps show buttons and captions.
  • Test the video on another phone, because colors and fonts can look different on different screens.

Best Export Settings

  • Resolution: 1080p for the best quality. Use 720p if your phone is slow or gets hot.
  • Frame rate: 30 fps is enough for most phones. Use 60 fps only if your phone handles it smoothly.
  • Format: MP4 video

Keep the screen on while exporting and close other apps before you start. A 3D project has many layers, so it needs more power than a simple slideshow. If the export stops in the middle, restart the app and try again at a lower resolution.

Common Problems and Easy Fixes

The project does not open. Update Alight Motion, check your internet and try the link again or in a different browser.

The photo has a white or black box around it. The image is a JPG. Remove the background and save it as a PNG with a transparent background.

The photo looks blurry. Use the original, high-quality photo from your gallery and avoid pictures sent through messaging apps.

The cut-out edges look rough. Zoom in and clean the edges in your background remover app, or add a very small blur or feather to the edge.

The text goes outside the screen. Reduce the size or split the name into two lines.

The balloons or text pass in the wrong order. Move the photo layer up or down in the timeline until the depth looks correct.

The app lags or crashes. Free up storage, close other apps and export at 720p.

An effect is missing or a watermark appears. Some effects may need the paid version, and the free version may add a watermark. Check your plan inside the app.

Photo, Song and Permission

Use only photos that belong to you or that you have permission to use, and make sure the person in the photo is happy to have the video shared. Avoid pictures downloaded from the internet and photos of celebrities. Get the song from an official platform and follow its rules when you upload. Song lyrics and music are protected by copyright, so if your video gets muted after posting, try the platform's own music library or a royalty-free track. I do not host any photos or audio on this website.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use this on an iPhone?
Alight Motion is available on Android and iPhone, so the project should open on both.

Do I need a photo with a transparent background?
For the best 3D effect, yes. A cut-out PNG lets the text and objects pass behind the person.

Can I use more than one person in the video?
Yes. You can place two cut-out photos side by side, but keep the sizes balanced so the frame does not look crowded.

Can I write the name in Kannada?
Yes, as long as the font you choose supports Kannada. If you see empty boxes, change the font.

Does the project link cost anything?
Using the link on this page does not cost anything. Whether every effect works depends on your Alight Motion plan.

Final Words

A 3D birthday video looks complicated, but most of the work is already done in the project. Your job is to give it a clean photo, a correct name and a good song, and to check the layers and timing. Take your time with the photo and the layer order, because these two things decide how professional the final video looks. If you get stuck on any step, leave a comment under this post and I will try to help.
